An important objective during this 18 month pilot project in Uttar Pradesh (UP) is to understand the managerial underpinnings necessary for administering such a system. UP is a good proxy location for gaining insights that will be directly applicable to future implementation elsewhere in the developing world, as rural poverty in the state reflects the desperate conditions of many countries in Asia and Africa.
Another advantage of working first in India is its position as a low-cost resource for both low-tech and high-tech products and services. The country also has a highly sophisticated pool of managers who will help establish the normative framework for this new system. This experience will enable us to replicate and adapt our health care model for poor rural areas across the globe.
WHP will create all operational systems and technologies keeping in mind the needs of underdeveloped areas of the world, ensuring that strategic and operational lessons from the UP project will be applicable to future project sites elsewhere. |
