  GOPI GOPALAKRISHNAN
PRESIDENT, WORLD HEALTH PARTNERS

Mr. Gopalakrishnan has over 20 years of experience in implementing large-scale service-delivery programs in low-resource settings. He founded Janani, a non-profit entity devoted to providing child and reproductive health services, in one of the poorest regions of India. Today, Janani accounts for more than 20% of family planning in the state of Bihar. It has won national and international acclaim for its innovative and creative management that enables the program to serve some of the poorest communities in the world on a sustainable basis. Mr. Gopalakrishnan’s network management strategies have been recognized worldwide as some of the most effective methods of addressing the great unmet need for family planning, and have been supported by the Government of India.

Specializing in public–private partnerships, Mr. Gopalakrishnan is an expert in leveraging private sector resources to complement public sector service provision. He has been a member of India’s Population Commission and has advised the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and numerous national and international organizations on large-scale cost-effective service delivery. Currently, he is on the global technical advisory board of the International Finance Corporation, an affiliate of the World Bank, and on the Advisory Group on Community Action (AGCA) of the National Rural Health Mission. Mr. Gopalakrishnan was the Director of International Programs of DKT International and received one of the highest civilian honors from the Government of Vietnam for his work as the Country Director of DKT International in Hanoi.

  MARTHA CAMPBELL
PhD
PRESIDENT, CEO & FOUNDER, VENTURE STRATEGIES FOR HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENT

Dr. Campbell is a political scientist and health policy specialist, and a lecturer in the School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley. She has special interests in economics, scale, and population issues. Dr. Campbell is president and founder of the nonprofit organization Venture Strategies for Health and Development, created to improve the health of low income people in resource-poor settings by building on the use of local market forces. In the 1990s, Dr. Campbell directed the population program in the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. She led the first comprehensive review of the broad range of barriers standing between women and the family planning methods and information they need to manage whether or when to have a child. In addition, she has written widely on the nature of conflicting perspectives on population issues and their influence on policies, in the context of conflicting theories; and on the sensitivities and silence around the population growth subject in the context of development efforts. Her academic degrees are from Wellesley College and the University of Colorado.
